Beyond the Trails: Padel, Cycling & Sport in the Altiplano
From padel courts to gravel racing across the Gorafe desert — how to stay active on your stay.
The Altiplano isn’t just a place to switch off. Between the villages, the badlands and the mountains beyond, this is genuinely active country — and increasingly a destination in its own right for cyclists, runners and padel players.
Padel
Padel has taken off across Spain, and Baza is no exception. El Baico in Baza has courts open to visitors — bring a partner or ask us and we’ll try to arrange a game.
Local Pools
Several villages run their own municipal outdoor pools through the summer, a favourite way to cool off in the middle of the day: Castillejar, Cúllar and Castril all have one, each an easy drive from our properties.
Cycling & Gravel Racing
The quiet roads and dirt tracks of the Altiplano have made this a rising destination for road cyclists and gravel riders alike. The Desierto de Gorafe in particular has become a favourite for gravel racing — its badlands tracks and total absence of traffic make for some of the most striking riding in Andalusia.
Running
Local running races take place around Baza throughout the year, drawing runners from across the province — ask us on WhatsApp for what’s on during your stay.
Sierra Nevada & The Coast
For a bigger day out, Sierra Nevada — mainland Spain’s highest ski resort — is within reach for a day of skiing in winter, and the Mediterranean coast makes for a full day trip when you want to swim in the sea. Granada city itself is only about 1 hour 15 minutes away, easily combined with either.
